ASX Today: rise & shine – Covid fears drives mixed signals
Here is today’s morning wrap up:
Concerns about the Covid-19 delta variant and a faltering US economy eclipsed anticipation about more fiscal stimulus on Monday, sending US stock markets in a mixed bag. Over the weekend, US senators unveiled a bipartisan infrastructure measure. Over the next five years, the law will add a total of US$550 billion in new spending. Square’s stock has increased by 10.2 percent after it said it would purchase Australian buy-now, pay-later company Afterpay for US$29 billion
The Dow Jones moved lower with a -0.28% move or -97.310 points. The S&P 500, moving -0.18% or -8.100 points. Based on technology, the Nasdaq was up overnight, closing with a +0.06% gain or +8.391 points.
This morning, the Australian stock market is projected to start Tuesday lower. The ASX 200 is predicted to open the day 19 points or 0.19 percent lower today, according to the latest SPI futures.
